BPM by CrateKeeper: Privacy Policy
BPM by CrateKeeper is made by AIDEN SCOTT LLC ("we"). This page explains what the app does with your information. The short version: the app doesn't collect anything about you. It has no accounts, no analytics, no ads and no server of its own.
The microphone
The app listens through your iPhone's microphone (or your Apple Watch's) only while the Listen screen is open, to work out the tempo, the musical key and how loud the music is. The sound is analyzed on your device and thrown away straight after. It is never recorded, saved or sent anywhere.
Track ID and Shazam
- Your library: if you send your library from CrateKeeper on your Mac, the file is stored on your iPhone, and tracks are matched against it on your iPhone. It's never uploaded.
- Shazam (optional, off until you say yes): for a track that isn't in your library, a short sound fingerprint is sent to Apple's Shazam service to name it. A fingerprint is a summary that can't be turned back into sound. This only happens while the Listen screen is open. Apple's privacy policy covers that lookup (apple.com/legal/privacy). You can turn Shazam off any time in the app's page in iPhone Settings.
What stays on your device
Everything you save stays on your iPhone, or on your Apple Watch for the watch app:
- your readings, and the names you give them
- your want list
- your library file
- your settings, including the sound level calibration
We can't see any of it. Deleting the app deletes all of it.
The Home Screen widget and the watch complication show your last locked tempo. It's shared between the app and its widgets on your device only.
When you choose to share or open something
Nothing leaves the app unless you tap something that sends it, and then it goes only where you send it:
- Sharing: share cards, CSV exports, crate files and want list files go where you choose (AirDrop, Messages, Files and so on).
- Want list stores and record pools: tapping one opens that site with the track's artist and title in its search.
- See CrateKeeper: opens getcratekeeper.com.
Those websites and apps have their own privacy policies.
Data collected: none
- We don't collect, store or sell personal information.
- We don't track you across apps or websites.
- We don't use advertising or analytics services.
On the App Store this is shown as Data Not Collected.
Your rights
Wherever you live (including under the GDPR in the EU and UK, and the CCPA in California), you have rights over personal data a company holds about you. BPM by CrateKeeper holds none on our side, so there's nothing for us to access, correct, export or delete. Your data on your device is yours to remove by deleting it in the app or deleting the app.
Children
The app isn't directed at children under 13 and collects no personal information from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If the app ever starts collecting data, this page will say what, why, and how to turn it off before that update ships.
