BPM by CrateKeeper: Support

BPM by CrateKeeper reads the tempo of the music around you, live. It's for DJs in the booth, at the decks or digging through records. It's from the makers of CrateKeeper.

Common questions

The BPM is half or double what I expected.
Many tracks can be counted either way (hip-hop at 90 or 180, for example). Tap ½× or 2× on Listen, or pick a Range that fits the music you play. Auto works for most sets.

The number won't settle in a quiet room.
It needs a clear beat. In a quiet room, or with music that has no steady beat, the ring stays amber and the app waits instead of guessing.

How do I set the tempo by hand?
Tap the TAP pad along with the beat. Keep tapping and the number gets steadier.

What's the key under the BPM?
The musical key the app hears, in Camelot notation (like 8A). Keys next to each other on the wheel mix well. It shows once the same key has held for a few seconds.

How accurate is the sound level?
iPhone microphones differ a little. To match a meter you trust, tap the sound level on Listen and use the calibration setting. Very loud rooms can go past what the iPhone mic can measure; then the number shows a "+".

What does Track ID need?

Does the app record me or my set?
No. The sound is analyzed on your device and thrown away. See the privacy policy.

Can I open it faster in the booth?
Yes: Siri ("Find the BPM with BPM"), the Action button, Control Center, the Lock Screen and Shortcuts can all open Listen or start the metronome.

Is there an Apple Watch app?
Yes: live BPM from the watch's own microphone, tap tempo, a wrist metronome and a complication.

The microphone isn't working.
Open iPhone Settings → BPM and turn on Microphone. Close other apps that are using the mic, like a voice call or a recorder, and open Listen again.
